AEF History

The Arrow Education Foundation was established as an investment in education as well as an investment in the future. A group of alumni and friends who believed in the Watertown Schools and wanted to support the future of our students helped build the Foundation to create an organization which encourages and rewards innovation in the classroom, and to provide educational opportunities for students and staff beyond what is provided for within the school budget.

The Foundation is governed by volunteer Board Members that represent parents, alumni, community and business leaders who seek funds and set policies according to the by-laws. The Foundation is a separate legal entity from the Watertown School District, but cooperates with the district to enhance and enrich education. The Arrow Education Foundation has a designated endowment fund within the Watertown Community Foundation. Our board of directors determines the distribution of the fund's earnings.

The Arrow Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax-exempt organization. Since its inception in 1999, the Foundation has given nearly $2,000,000 to the Watertown schools. Tax-deductible contributions to the foundation ensure support of the students and staff of the Watertown School District today and tomorrow. Contribution options include planned giving, matched giving, annual fund campaigns, in-kind contributions and volunteering.

We are reaching out to more and more children every year. A few examples of this outreach are the awarding of innovative education grants for items such as iPods for elementary school bands to video/audio record students to enhance performance, and learning tools like standing desks for students who need a simple change of scenery to learn. Watertown elementary students also had the pleasure of working with Artists in Residence like Brod Bagert, Jean Patrick and Coleen Liebsch. It is indeed an exciting period of growth for the Arrow Education Foundation!
